David Wright, the former Mets captain, is visiting the team as a guest instructor at the team's training camp as part of his preparation for the upcoming season. He plans to begin his relationship with new third baseman Bo Bichette, who is shifting from shortstop to third base. Following a reshape of the roster, Wright is learning new names, including those of Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil and Edwin Díaz. The new arrivals also include Jorge Polanco, Marcus Semien, Luis Robert Jr. and Devin Williams. Team owner Steve Cohen has stated that there will not be an official Mets captain as long as Cohen owns the club.
