Abbott's top-tier glucose monitoring system from medical manufacturer Abbott has been linked to a recall of about 3 million FreeStyle Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus sensors, which are at risk of producing false low readings and have resulted in seven deaths and over 730 serious injuries worldwide. The company has issued an urgent warning informing U.S. consumers that the faulty readings were caused by a production line issue, which was quickly fixed quickly. The recall has led to at least three proposed class action lawsuits in the US and three other people in California, Washington and North Carolina planning to sue over the incorrect readings. Concerns have raised about whether the true number of injuries could be higher than the 860 cited in Abbott's count.
