A court in Nagoya has sentenced 40-year-old Masaya Otani to life in prison for the murder and robbery of Haruhiko Hayashi more than two years ago. The verdict stated that Otani broke into a private home in Agui and strangled Hayashi to death, then stole his car and other items before dumping Hayashi's body in a wooded area on the property several weeks later. Despite Otani's claim of innocence, the court rejected his testimony and stated that his actions after the crime were heinous.
