Lauren Macpherson, a 29-year-old Welsh woman, was diagnosed with a terminal brain cancer after a 35-pound suitcase fell from her head while on the train home from a music festival. She was taken to the hospital for a CT scan and diagnosed with about 10 to 12 years to live. She had previously experienced extreme fatigue, gut issues and blackouts, which were thought to be due to hormones or undiagnosed ADHD, but were initially attributed to hormones, ADHD, and a month later, a new biopsy revealed she had a grade two oligodendroglioma, a rare and incurable brain tumor that was in her speech cortex, causing her to lose most of her cognitive function. After consulting social media and discovering an alternative treatment called vorasidenib, which was approved for NHS Scotland but not in Wales, England, and Northern Ireland, Macherson underwent an operation to remove around 80% of the tumor in October 2025. She will undergo further scans every three months to check on the tumor.
