New York Attorney General Letitia James and a coalition of 40 states, counties, cities, and state agencies have sued to prevent the federal government from erasing climate change regulations. The group is challenging the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) repeal of the 2009 endangerment finding, which found that greenhouse gases threaten public health and welfare. The lawsuit argues that the EPA's actions ignore science, dismiss evidence, and violate the Clean Air Act. The EPA dismissed the lawsuit as partisan posturing, stating it has no power under Section 202 of the Clean Act to regulate motor vehicle emissions to combat climate change. While James is fighting to preserve national emissions rules, environmentalists are criticizing New York Governor Kathy Hochul for her efforts to delay state's own climate mandates.
