The Royals' Chairman and CEO, John Sherman, has stated that the team will not extend their lease at Kauffman Stadium beyond its expiration in January 2031. Sherman cited the need to locate a new home for the Royals and Major League Baseball in a higher-density area like Atlanta's Truist Park. The team is making progress but a final site has not yet been selected. Three locations remain in play: The Kansas side of the state line, North Kansas City and Kansas City, Missouri.
