The Texas Department of State Health Services has decided to ban pre-rolled joints and other smokable THC products from selling in the state starting Tuesday. This decision is seen as a significant setback for the multibillion-dollar industry and consumers alike. Previously, small amounts of THC were made legal through federal and state laws, allowing consumable products to be sold if they were less than 0.3% delta-9 THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. However, these laws did not include limits on THCA, a compound in hemp that turns into THC when burned. The Texas Hemp Business Council plans to file a lawsuit against the department, arguing they have exceeded their authority to make such a change.
