The city of Phoenix is considering a nearly 50% increase in solid waste rates over the next three years due to a shortfall in revenues and infrastructure costs. The proposed new rate would increase the monthly residential solid-waste fee by $6 each year, another $6 the next year, and $5 more the third year. The increase would bring the monthly total to $54.32 starting in July 2028. The public works department has an online survey open until the end of the month for residents to comment on the proposed rate increase. The increases are expected to be voted on by the Phoenix City Council in April.
