High school baseball, softball: Keller survives test; Melissa continues home run barrage

The Keller baseball team, ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 6A, survived a five-hour test by beating Keller Central 7-3. The victory extended Keller's 13-game winning streak to 13 games. Meanwhile, Melissa, the nation's eighth-ranked team, has hit 53 home runs in its first 22 games, an average of 2.4 per game. Last season, Melissa set a new high school national record for most home runs by hitting 122 in 39 games. Melissa is aiming to become the first team to win three consecutive state championships in one of the UIL’s top two classifications. Other notable performances include a 13-5 win over Prosper Walnut Grove, and a 16-2 rout of Waxahachie Christian.
