Strong winds, high surf, and elevated fire risk threaten northeast Florida, southeast Georgia this weekend

A dry cold front is bringing hazardous conditions to northeast Florida and southeast Georgia this weekend, including strong winds, high surf, and elevated fire danger. A Wind Advisory is in effect for gusts of 40–45 mph along the coast and the St. Johns River Basin, and an advisory for inland areas including Western Clay, Western Putnam, Bradford, Eastern and Western Alachua, and Union counties is also in effect. Beach conditions will be particularly dangerous, with breaking waves expected to rise to 5–7 feet Saturday afternoon and rise to 8–10 feet Saturday night and Sunday. Inland Southeast Georgia is under a Red Flag Warning due to conditions ripe for rapid fire spread. The area is also under an extreme to Exceptional Drought conditions.
