GOP flips Woodbridge supervisor seat for first time in 38 years amid Democratic turmoil

Republican Jeannie LaCroix has won the Prince William County special election to represent the Woodbridge District on the Board of County Supervisors, marking the first time in 38 years that the GOP has held the seat. LaCrox defeated Democratic nominee Muhammad Sufiyan "Sef" Casim, who received 1,436 votes (37.07%) and 744 votes from write-in candidates. The victory came amid controversy within the local Democratic party, with Casim facing calls to resign after resurfaced social media posts were described as racist, misogynistic and xenophobic. The Democratic nominee had previously run for the House District 23 seat but moved to Woodbridge after losing the primary to Margaret Franklin. Under Virginia law, moving to a new district is legal, as long as one year before the election, and establishing residency in the district by Election Day is required.
