A federal appeals court has upheld a ruling that requires rapper Kidd Wes, whose real name is Donald Glover, to pay $286,475 in legal fees for his hit song, "This is America". The claim was that the track copied portions of Wes’s 2016 song. However, this was rejected due to Wes not having registered a copyright for the arrangement he claimed was copied. The court reduced the amount initially to $934,000, but the presiding judge reduced it to $285,475. Despite Wes' appeal, the court upheld the original ruling. The song, which started as a Drake Diss track, was hugely successful and won numerous awards at the Grammy Awards.
