The Virginia voters will decide on a ballot initiative in a special election on Tuesday, which could potentially upend this year's midterm elections. The vote will determine if the state approves Democrats' redistricting plan, which would significantly change the state's congressional map, giving Democrats a 10-1 advantage over Republicans. The amendment was approved by Democrats in February and would temporarily bypass the state’s typical redistricting process. If approved, it would allow Democrats to proceed with their map. The leading group, Virginians for Fair Elections, reported raising $64 million in favor of the referendum, with $40 million from House Majority Forward, led by Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and $7 million from Justice for Democracy PAC, an anti-redistricting group. However, even if Virginians pass the measure, the process of creating the new map is still under judicial review.
