Spirit Airlines, a former budget carrier preparing to exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, has taken to I-95 billboards in Fort Lauderdale and Stirling Road in South Florida to promote its reputation as South Florida's "TRUE Hometown Airline". The company is using these billboards to highlight its decades-long corporate presence in the South Florida community. The billboards are located at three I-96 exits near Sunrise and Davie boulevards in Fort L. Lauderdale, Orlando, Detroit, and the Greater New York area. Spirit plans to emerge from its most recent case as a smaller, independent carrier this summer. However, JetBlue Airways, which once attempted to acquire Spirit for $3.8 billion, has been steadily closing the gap in market share at the Fort Lauderdale airport, with Spirit's top-ranked share at 24.9% and JetBlue's at 21.3%.
