The U.S. military blockade of Iran's ports is expected to deprive Tehran of crucial oil revenue, but it is unlikely to cause a major economic crisis or damage to its oil fields, according to Western officials and experts. The blockade, imposed a month ago, has prevented dozens of Iranian tankers off the coast from moving through the Strait of Hormuz. Despite warnings from President Donald Trump that the oil industry could explode, this has not yet occurred. Iran has gradually reduced its oil production due to the blockade and may run out of storage capacity within two months. However, most analysts believe it can avoid shutting down wells as significant amounts of its oil can be consumed domestically, allowing most oil fields to keep operating. The economic consequences of the blockade will grow by depriving the regime of oil revenue and causing a shortfall in the government budget, increasing inflation and increasing the cost of imported goods.
