President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iran's power plants unless they fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. This comes after a week of stalled diplomatic efforts. The Damavand Combined Cycle Power Plant, Iran's largest by generating capacity, is likely to be at the top of the list. Despite previously pushing for a maritime coalition to protect commercial shipping through the strait, the president has now suggested that other countries should secure the passage themselves. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has been working to erode Iran's grip on the straits, and has reportedly dropped multiple 5,000-pound bombs on a hardened underground coastal facility Iran used to store anti-ship cruise missiles and mobile launchers.
