President Donald Trump has threatened to send Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to airports if Congress does not agree to a plan to end the partial government shutdown. The move comes as TSA agents continue to maintain hourslong security lines despite not being paid. The ICE agents are not trained to perform security screenings and TSA screeners are required to undergo months of training. The White House and Department of Homeland Security, which includes TSA, have not specified what their roles will take. As financial strain and low morale push TSA agents off the job, travelers may expect to see continuing lines at some airports. The Department of Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, predicts that without a funding bill, travel will be worse than ever before without further action.
