Abbott, Hinojosa win nominations for Texas governor

Governor Greg Abbott and State Representative Gina Hinojosa won the nominations for Texas Governor on Tuesday. Abbott, seeking a fourth term in office, was challenged by retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel Pete "Doc" Chambers, who is running on abolishing property taxes and ending private school vouchers, was the Democratic nominee. Hinoijosa is currently serving her fifth term in the Texas House of Representatives and has previously served as Texas attorney general and justice on the Texas Supreme Court. The winners of the Republican and Democratic primaries will go to the general election on Nov. 3, 2026.
