Why safety regulators closed their investigation into Tesla's remote parking feature

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed its investigation into Tesla's remote parking feature, "Actually Smart Summon", after finding that crashes were rare and not severe. The feature allows users to direct their car to specific locations using their smartphone. The NHTSA stated that its closure does not constitute a finding that a safety-related defect exists and can reopen it. The investigation was launched in January 2025 after reports of dozens of crashes involving the feature.
