All prop bets are off in Utah under new law

Utah has implemented a new law specifically targeting proposition bets, which are not directly connected to the outcome of a game. The law, which takes effect in May, outlaws wagers placed on specific players or events during sporting contests. This comes as a wake up to the rise of prediction markets, where users can trade on futures such as who will win the Oscars or win a presidential election. The bill ensures proposition bets are treated as gambling under Utah law, bringing clarity to people, communities and law enforcement. Meanwhile, the Public Health Advocacy Institute filed a civil complaint in Pennsylvania against traditional sportsbook apps FanDuel and DraftKings as well as the National Football League.
