A new analysis by climate newsroom Heatmap News has revealed that Americans are spending an average estimated $158/month on their home electric bills, according to the study. Nantucket County, Mass., San Francisco County, Calif., and Nobles County, Minn. had the highest estimated average monthly electric bills in the continental U.S. across 2025. Counties in Alabama and Texas dominated the most expensive list, partially due to higher consumption and a new measure in Alabama will freeze base rates until 2029. The study also revealed that costs are higher than average in many parts of Alaska, where isolation and geography often drives up prices.
