Ottawa police officer shot while helping apprehend homicide suspect, officials say

An Ottawa police officer has been shot while assisting in the arrest of a suspected homicide. The officer is currently in a stable condition at a Kansas City-area hospital. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. The police are working with the Kansas City Police Department to identify the suspect.
