U.S. strikes Iranian city; Kuwaiti oil tanker hit in Persian Gulf
Published on March 31, 2026.
A likely strike by the United States has hit the central Iranian city of Isfahan, sending a massive fireball into the sky, and Tehran also struck a fully loaded Kuwaiti oil tanker in the Persian Gulf. The intensity of these attacks reflects the intensity of the monthlong war launched by the U.S. and Israel against Iran. Israel reported another four soldiers killed in its invasion of Lebanon, and two more United Nations peacekeepers, leading to an emergency session at the United Nations Security Council. Despite this, attacks on civilian targets continued, including an Iranian drone hitting a Kuwaiti tanker in Dubai waters, causing minor damage to six homes. The international benchmark for Brent crude oil was around $107 a barrel in early trading, up more than 45% since the war started.
