Homewood's Dixie Highway viaduct will be closed for at least three months due to flood mitigation repairs and resurfacing by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The closure is expected to close in April and last until October. The project, originally planned for completion in 2027, was delayed due to repeated flooding. Public Works Director Joshua Burman said the closure is long overdue due to the ongoing flooding at the viadeway. The highway will be resurfaced from Balagio Ristorante to the viadsuct, reducing it from two lanes going either direction to one lane going each direction and a central turn lane as a traffic calming measure. A bike lane will also be added for pedestrian traffic.
