Westport Police Combat Distracted Driving

The Westport Police Department is partnering with the Connecticut Department of Transportation in a statewide campaign to reduce distracted driving and raise public awareness of the dangers. The campaign, which coincides with National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, will take place from April 1 to 30. Police across Connecticut are increasing their patrols and enforcement. The initiative is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's "Put the Phone Away or Pay" initiative. According to federal data, 3,275 people were killed in distracted-driving crashes in the United States in 2023.
