New research from Kaiser Permanente has revealed that after California legalized adult recreational cannabis in 2016, cannabis use among teenagers increased. The study, which examined 1.3 million well-child pediatric visits among Kaiser Pernet patients aged 13 to 17, found that before legalization, rates increased to 8.1% in 2017 and 9.5% in 2018. The increase could be attributed to adolescents viewing cannabis as more socially acceptable, increased availability, lower prices, and increased vaping products. The findings were released days before California celebrated its 10-year anniversary of cannabis legalization.
