Chicago Police Officer Killed in Hospital Shooting, Another Is ‘Fighting for His Life’

On Saturday, April 25, a Chicago police officer was killed and another officer critically wounded after shots were fired at a hospital in Chicago. The incident occurred while officers were transporting an individual to Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital for observation before taking him to jail for a separate offense. The deceased officer was identified as John Bartholomew, 38, and the second officer, an unidentified 57-year-old, is receiving treatment at Illinois Masonic Hospital. Following the shooting, a manhunt ensued and the suspect was found and is currently in custody. The hospital was placed on lockdown during the incident, but the lockdown was lifted by 2 p.m.
