Filmmaker Maya Annik Bedward has spent 10 years tracing the zombie from its Hollywood boom back to its roots in Haiti, where it was a Haitian Vodou metaphor for slavery. Her debut feature, Black Zombie, reveals that the zombie was once a symbol for the Transatlantic Slave Trade, which was used as a vehicle for white audiences' fear of retaliation.
