Old Dominion University gunman ID’d as former National Guardsman convicted of plotting attack to support Islamic State

The gunman, Mohammed Bailor Jalloh, has been identified as an ex-National Guard soldier convicted of attempting to support the Islamic State. He opened fire in a classroom at Old Dominion University, killing a retired military officer and injuring himself. A heroic ROTC student managed to save the lives of Jallo, who was stabbed to death by the gunman. In 2017, Jallos was sentenced to 11 years in prison for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic state.
