The Layton City Council and the police department have announced that the city is banning cryptocurrency kiosks due to increasing fraud and scams. The city's eight kiosks have been targeted by individuals who attempt to deposit their money into them under the guise of law enforcement, computer repair, bank officials, or romantic relationship scams. A new ordinance has been adopted by the Layleton City Council on March 19, banning the operation of cryptocurrency ATMs and Bitcoin Teller Machines within the city. Existing machines must be removed within 60 days and could face misdemeanor charges. The new law will go into effect in May.
