The ongoing Iran war has driven up gas prices in the US, raising affordability concerns ahead of the midterm elections. The White House insists that the war will lower gas prices for Americans over the long term, despite the recent surge in energy costs globally. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has suggested that Iran may have been behind a deadly strike on an elementary school in southern Iran, and suggested that other countries also possess "generic" Tomahawk missiles like the one used in the attack. The US Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, encouraged Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to "heed the words" of US President Trump.
