Law professor and law professor, Sandra Brown, has written about the unfair treatment of her Black children by institutions that often treat them differently, starting at the age of five and older than they are. Her children are often treated differently, often being treated as if they are older than their own, receiving punishments that feel outsized for their transgressions, and being inappropriately sexualized. The author shares her personal experiences and fears that challenging authority can create a target for the child they are trying to defend.
