Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce President Jack Lavin has called on Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to resolve the City Council stalemate over the selection of a new zoning committee chairperson. This issue has been resolved after Acting Zoning Committee Chair Bennett Lawson (44th) gave Johnson a year-end ultimatum: Make his committee post permanent with control over his own staff or he's done. Lawson has held a Zoning committee meeting in January and chaired a meeting in February that included Foundry Park, a scaled down version of the massive Lincoln Yards development. Meanwhile, some members of the Black Caucus have pushed for Economic Development Chair Gilbert Villegas (36th) to take over the Zoned Committee and Ald. David Moore (17th) for VillegAS. Senior mayoral adviser Jason Lee suggested that the city Council should get its own act together, stating that it has had multiple opportunities to vote for a new Zoning chair.
