After a frigid delay, it’s time to hit the trail westward

On March 21, author Ned Rozell and his friend Forest Wagner are set to embark on a fat bike ride westward on a journey from Fairbanks to Nome, about 700 miles westward. The trip is set to take place on big frozen rivers and wooded portages. Despite a late start being delayed a month due to extreme weather conditions, the team hopes to race the spring melt westward to reach Nome. This contrasts with a 25-year-old method used by Andy Sterns and I used to cover the same country miles 25 years ago. Despite this, Rozell's current lack of saddle time and recent cold weather have limited him to 40 below and their trails were obliterated by feet of snow in February.
