DeAnne Kading Powell, owner of Wags N’ Whiskers Grooming Salon in Moorhead, has created a nonprofit to help financially strapped pet owners cover ER vet services. The fund, named after her business, will only cover large emergency or urgent-care services such as broken limbs, parvo virus or severe ear or urinary-tract infections. Pet owners would need to apply for a grant to cover medical expenses through the veterinary office where their pet received treatment. The nonprofit will also expect the pet owner to pay for the exam fee and apply for CareCredit, a credit card that offers special financing for veterinary fees.
