State Senator Scott Wiener, known for pushing some of the Capitol's most divisive and politically touchy bills, has seen his winning streak waning as he faces challenges in his career. Three of his bills were defeated in Capitol committees this week, a significant setback for him as he is now in a competitive race for former Speaker Nancy Pelosi's congressional seat and stepping aside as leader of the Legislative Jewish Caucus after calling Israel's war in Gaza a genocide. Despite a successful year in Sacramento, Wiener has faced increasing scrutiny from his colleagues, particularly from Republicans who cast the deciding vote on his bill requiring cities to allow denser housing near public transit stops. The tech bill, which included a bill restricting companies' ability to favor their own products and services on app stores and websites, failed to pass.
