The purchase of Ardrossan harbour by the Scottish government's ferries and ports agency is set to be finalised this month. The decision was made following successful negotiations between Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CALAL) and Peel Ports. The government has been forced to buy the harbour due to the size of the existing facilities and the need for extensive redevelopment. The sale will bring "wider benefits" to ferry services in the long-term, according to Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop.
