A woman and a man drowned after attempting to rescue a child caught in a rip current off Cocoa Beach, Florida, on April 14. The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. local time. First responders found four victims in the water and began life-saving measures for two of them, but they were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued guidance on rip current safety, including knowing how to swim and staying at least 100 feet away from piers and jetties. The child survived without needing medical attention.
