After six months of negotiations, Niles village leaders have approved a two-year contract with Pace to continue free bus service in the community. The agreement includes Pace providing 10, Pace-owned, 15-passenger vehicles and the village of Niles maintaining an insurance transit policy, indemnifying, defending and holding harmless Pace, its directors, officers, employees, and agents. The transit service will continue to cover nearly two-thirds of the $1.7 million program, about $1,088,000. Niles suspended its free in-town Pace bus service last fall due to a dispute with the company over paying insurance.
