Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has refused to resign under increasing pressure from the United States, despite threats from President Donald Trump's administration. He described Cuba as a "free sovereign state" with the right to self-determination and stated that the island is not subject to the US's designs. The US has also increased its oil blockade on Cuba and threatened tariffs on any country selling oil to Cuba. Despite this, Russia has remained a close ally of Cuba.
