Former Gov. Pat Quinn and state Rep. La Shawn Ford have launched a campaign for the "Millionaire Amendment" to raise the state's highest residential property tax in 2025. The proposal would require a referendum on the November ballot to create an additional 3% tax on income greater than $1 million for the purpose of dedicating funds raised from this tax to property tax relief. This proposal has not yet been approved by the state General Assembly, and Ford says he lacks the three-fifths majority needed to pass it.
