The new owner of Minneapolis' Lumber Exchange, Space Unlimited, is threatening to evict wedding venue company for more than $1 million in unpaid rent. The Lumber exchange, which recently sold for $1, is seeking damages from the landlord for failing to maintain the historic building. Space Unlimited acquired the building in late February and is already embroiled in a legal dispute with the property's event venue about unpaid rent and maintenance issues. The event center, a longtime tenant, claims that Space Unlimited has violated its lease and is violating its right to not pay rent until these issues are resolved. The building owner, Deepak Nath, argues that neglect over the past six years needs to be addressed. Despite allegations of poor conditions, the venue continues to host events and is not canceling events.
