EU broadcasters want Apple TV, Siri regulated under DMA

A group representing Europe's commercial broadcasters, the Association of Commercial Television and Video on Demand Services in Europe (ACT), has asked the European Commission to extend its toughest Digital Markets Act (DMA) rules to smart TVs and virtual assistants. ACT represents major broadcasters such as Canal+ RTL, Mediaset, ITV, Paramount+ NBCUniversal, Walt Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Sky, and TF1 Groupe. ACT argues that smart TV platforms and virtual assistant platforms are gaining growing ability to control access to audiences and content distribution without being subject to DMA obligations. The lobbying group also voiced concerns about virtual assistants such as Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri.
