On April 2, 1995, Major League Baseball announced the end of a nearly eight-month baseball strike and the start of a 144-game season. The announcement was made following a 4 ½-hour meeting with Major League baseball owners. In 2009, former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was indicted on 16 counts, including racketeering, fraud and extortion. The show "Svengoolie" was broadcast across the country for the first time, and in 2011, Lori Lightfoot was elected as mayor of Chicago.
