Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Council has announced plans to restructure its social care team, with over 100 social care employees told their roles would be "deleted" and they must apply for new jobs. Council leader Kevin Guy stated that this decision was not a budget issue but a restructuring issue. The increase in number of children with special educational needs and disabilities has led to an increase in funding for BANES, which spends between £20,000 and £60,000 per SEND child per annum. The authority is set to lose more than £12m over the next three years.
