NASA's Artemis 2 mission launched on April 1, sending four astronauts to Earth orbit with a capsule. The mission will continue to circle Earth until this evening (April 2), when Orion performs a crucial maneuver, a translunar injection (TLI) burn, is scheduled to take place. This maneuver is a major commitment point for the mission. Most of the operations on the mission have been directed towards the TLI burn. If deemed unready, Artemis 2 will make a figure-eight loop around the moon, a path chosen for its simplicity and safety. If successful, the astronauts will be the first people to travel beyond since 1972. The experience will pave the way for even greater lunar leaps for NASA.
