A ballot campaign seeking to impose a tax on high earners in Michigan has withdrawn its efforts to collect signatures for the November 2026 ballot. The Invest in MI Kids campaign would have proposed a 5% tax on individuals earning more than $500,000 per year to increase funding for K-12 schools. The group needed 446,198 signatures for this proposal to appear on the November ballot. However, Rachelle Crow-Hercher, president of the campaign, stated that it was uncertain about the feasibility of this effort due to financial constraints. The proposed new tax would have generated about $1 billion or more annually for public schools.
