Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has condemned the March 12 attack on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, calling it "ancient and rampant evil". Whitmer praised Temple Israel security guards who thwarted the attacker before he could reach the 104 pre-school children who were in the building at the time. She also thanked first responders who responded quickly to the call. Whitmer called on residents to reduce political rhetoric and call out antisemitism wherever they see it. U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin also attended the briefing, expressing her personal connection to Temple Israel.
