A report by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) has identified Kansas City as one of the weakest performing host cities for the FIFA World Cup. The survey found that 85-90% of respondents reported booking pace below expectations, with demand even below what hotels typically see during a normal June or July. Major factors behind the weak performance include the cancellation of FIFA-controlled hotel room blocks and the release of 70-95% of originally contracted FIFA room inventory to the open market. The report also highlighted weak international travel demand and an oversupplied market. However, the report cautioned that the World Cup may not deliver the full projected economic impact in certain markets.
