MTA Will Replace Thousands Of Aging Subway Cars In Historic Upgrade

The New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is planning to replace thousands of aging subway cars with a new contract of 2,390 new cars. The purchase will be funded by $68 billion from the state budget. The new cars could replace up to 36.4 percent of the subway's entire fleet, up to 17.3 percent with just the base order alone. The order is larger than any other combined order. Companies have until September 8 to submit their proposals for the contract.
